Andres David Cruz Gomez is a classically-trained singer who was born in Bogotá, Colombia. He started his musical education at a musical academy in a town near Bogotá called Casa de La Cultura. He took voice lessons with Fabiola Martinez, a classically-trained soprano soloist. Later on, he began his formal undergraduate studies in Fundación Universitaria Juan N. Corpas. Under the guidance of Maestro Juan David Rojas (graduate from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana and Texas Christian University), where he continued his vocal training. He took piano lessons with Svetlana Solodovnikova, a graduate of the prestigious St. Petersburg Conservatory. He then transferred to the University Of North Carolina at Charlotte and continued his studies with Dr. Carl DuPont (graduate of Eastman School of Music).
As a soloist, he placed 2nd place in the Juvenile Music program of the University of los Andes. He has had masterclasses with Colombian tenor David Guzman, German countertenor Johannes Reichert, American baritone Reginald Smith Jr., and American soprano Christina Pier. As a singer, he has explored the beautiful, mystical world of Latin American songs. He has sung repertoire from Argentinian, Colombian, and Venezuelan songs inspired by traditional folk music mixed with a classical European style.
In 2013, he sang in the choir for the world premier of the Colombian opera Muerte de un Anarquista by Jorge Pinzón. He has had opportunities to perform with the Philharmonic Choir of Bogota along the Philharmonic Orchestra in a series of concerts celebrating Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos. He has also been actively engaged in teaching private piano and voice lessons, applying dynamic elements to emphasize the progress of the student. He has sung a variety of repertoire including the role of Rodolfo in Gianni Schicchi and has sung pieces ranging from J.S Bach., G.F Handel, W.A Mozart,Bellini, Donizetti, Puccini and various opera arias, Latin American songs, Spanish songs, and Spanish Zarzuelas (Spanish Opera).
